How do you measure up against the giants?

Seville is seeking applications for its inaugural Tallest Man and Woman contest to be part of its GiantFest festivities September 20 & 21, 2008.

GiantFest is a "Giant of a Festival" with three local parks in downtown Seville, Ohio. This festival has been created to commemorate the world’s tallest couple, Captain Martin Van Buren Bates and his wife Anna Swan Bates.

Applicants are asked to send their name, address, telephone number and estimated height to GiantFest, P.O. Box 264, Seville, Ohio 44273 no later than September 10.

A representative of GiantFest will then contact the candidates to verify their height. All applicants must be 21 or older.

Finalists will be notified and must be present Saturday night, September 20, to be officially measured and to participate in the on-stage program. The tallest man and tallest woman will be announced that evening and are expected to attend all three days of the festival for personal appearances.

GiantFest is being planned by a steering committee made up of local residents, the Seville Mayor’s Office, the Seville Chamber of Commerce, Seville and Medina County Historical societies and other county and nearby residents interested in preserving the memory of Seville’s most famous family.
